Using the Option GIO225 mobile USB modem in Ubuntu

Note: AFAIK, the network manager in Ubuntu 8.10 'Intrepid Ibex' contains all stuff needed, but this might be of use to people like me who like LTS software (people with anti-versionitis).

The Option GIO225 is sold as an UMTS/GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/whatever... (mobile broadband) modem by tele.ring in Austria. As tele.ring claimed, the modem works fine with Linux once configured (they even told me I would have to configure it on my own... lol). Here are the steps required for getting the modem to work in Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron" (or probably any other Linux distribution of your choice):

Required software

Configuration

Plug in your modem, open Internet -> HSOconnect (how nice it even added a GNOME menu entry ;-), and configure your provider. For tele.ring, the following settings are needed:

APNwap
Userwap@telering.at
Passwap

Connect and have fun surfing on the go.
